Registration Now Open for Girls on the Run

Registration is now taking place for the 2014 season of Girls on the Run of Branch County.  The ten week program will start the week of March 10, 2014, but the registration deadline is January 13, 2014, for girls in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th grades in Coldwater, Bronson, Quincy, and Union City.  Registration forms are available online at or and can be mailed to Girls on the Run of Branch County, P.O. Box 483, Coldwater MI  49036.  Credit Card payments can be processed at

Girls registered by December 1, 2013, will pay an early bird fee of $96.00.  After December 1, 2013, the registration fee will increase to $120 and a maximum scholarship of $50 will be available.  Registrations end on January 13, 2014, or when a team is full.  Each team is limited to the first 15 registrations.  Registrations will not be accepted after January 14, 2013.

Families who are unable to pay the full registration fee may be awarded financial assistance.  All scholarship recipients must pay the balance due on the registration fee in full by February 14, 2014.  Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis and may be limited to the resources available at the time of application.  Girls on the Run of Branch County believe a strong sense of pride and ownership is developed if the financial assistance recipient has contributed to the cost of the program.  Therefore, applicants will be asked to pay a portion of the registration fee.  Girls participate equally in the program regardless of the fee their family pays.

The mission of Girls on the Run is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.  The program will be held at Jefferson, Max Larsen, Lakeland, and St. Charles Elementary Schools in Coldwater; Bronson; Quincy; and Union City Elementary Schools.  Forth and fifth graders will be bused from Lakeland back to their home school (if Lakeland is your home school then your daughter would remain there).  For example, if you live in the Jefferson district, then your daughter would come back to Jefferson.  Jefferson’s third graders will likewise be bused to their home school.  Parents will have the ability to choose which school location works best for them.

“Last year a total of 175 girls were enrolled in the program; we’re looking for even more to join this year,” said Rosie Rial, GOTR of Branch County Board Chair.  This is the seventh year for the program in Branch County.

The registration fee includes a new pair of New Balance running shoes, 20 lessons, an official GOTR t-shirt, participation in the 5k celebration run, a GOTR medal, and healthy snack at each lesson.  As an added bonus, Dr. and Mrs. Groves of Great Lakes Health and Fitness have included in the registration fee a six-month membership starting on March 10, 2014, to participants and their running buddies.
